Korean Food is a favorite cuisine of mine so I was so excited when my friend knew of a perfect spot in Highpoint, NC for us to throw down at.
Highpoint Korean BBQ (the name of the restaurant), is a quaint spot in the middle of a shopping center with a very attentive staff, and a lot of mood lighting. It’s dark inside there but it’s in a lovely ambience kind of way and not in a creepy way.
I thought it was worth mentioning that they had a sign posted that they give Highpoint University students a discount in accord with the college’s passport program (not entirely sure what that means!) which is nice because this is not a cheap restaurant.
Our waiter was very friendly and kind. I had a hard time deciding (as always) what I wanted because everything on the menu sounded so good. I had to make the waiter come back 3 times until I could pick, he never once got frustrated or pushy.
Some of the items they had on the menu included Pork, Chicken and Beef Bulgogi, Don Katsu, and of course Korean Fried Chicken.
I got the Spicy Pork Ribs and my friend got the Kkan Punngi, which is fried chicken tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce.
Each meal comes with white rice and miso soup. Also you get kimchi, fried onions with jalapeƱo’s, cucumbers, and potato salad.
This was the first time I tried Korean potato salad, it was definitely interesting. The potato salad was more sweet then savory and it also looked just like a scoop of mashed potatoes.
My friend’s Kkan Punngi was very delicious, you know I had to take a bite! It was covered in a sauce with a mix of vegetables including corn, carrots, and green beans. Her plate was also huge, definitely enough to share.
The Spicy Pork Ribs were also very good I loved the sweet and spicy sauce they covered them in. I could have eaten the sauce by the spoonful. The ribs were big and plump and they were bone in rib not riblets. You get about 7 ribs definitely enough food to feed two people.
All in all I would give this place a 9/ 10 I thought the food was so good as well as the service. I can not wait to go back!
